Active Travel

Peter Jones Associates and Cycling UK have been commissioned by South Hams District Council to develop an area-wide cycling and walking infrastructure plan (LCWIP) and behaviour change programme.

This project is seeking to develop a network-level infrastructure plan to enable growth in active travel in and around South Hams. This will be accompanied by a behaviour change programme to further encourage walking, wheeling and cycling.

An infrastructure plan aims to enable active travel in these areas, and grow pedestrian and cycle traffic. To achieve its outcomes and contribute to long-term positive impacts in the local area, we recommend that this project should be closely aligned with relevant policies and local priorities. An infrastructure plan for walking and cycling in the area should identify strategic corridors for active travel and identify a prioritised list of future initiatives and infrastructure projects.

Alongside this, a behaviour change strategy will be produced by Cycling UK. The aim is to develop understanding and provide a basis for a strategy that suits the rural nature of the council areas, enabling authorities and the local community to increase the use of walking, wheeling and cycling for local journeys.

The project is due to complete by March 2024 and documentation will be uploaded here when its complete.
